Matilda Cook was one of a group of People & Plant campaigners at the University of Leeds who used NUS’ research on divestment to make their arguments even stronger.
After occupying the building where University Council was meeting, they were invited to meet the university’s vice-chancellor face to face.
“Using the NUS statistics in conjunction with the results we had from our own referendum gave us a reputable source that felt relevant to students”, Matilda said. “It really showed the national context of this campaign by connecting us to other students and staff members across the country who support the same idea”.
